Vacancy: Counselling Social Worker
Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is a non-profit organisation that promotes an end to violence against women specifically rape, and assists survivors in achieving their right to live free from violence by reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, encouraging reporting of rape incidents, facilitating the active engagement of communities in challenging high rape rates and advocating for a stronger criminal justice system. Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is seeking a committed and experienced Counselling Social Worker to join its counselling team. The role involves providing therapeutic support and shortterm interventions to adult sexual assault survivors, facilitating support groups, and contributing to holistic, survivorcentred services. The successful candidate will work closely with internal programmes and uphold Rape Crisis’s commitment to ethical practice, safeguarding, and social justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide supportive intervention to sexual assault survivors (Majority for 18+ and adolescents).
- Includes intake, assessment and on-going short-term intervention.
- Family work – provide psycho-social support groups for family members/support persons of the sexual assault survivor.
- Support groups – planning, recruitment, selection and facilitation of support groups for adult survivors.
- Administration and report writing – individual/group reports, psycho-social assessment reports, referral reports and quarterly funder reports.
- Managing a filing system – both hardcopy and electronic files.
- Liaise with all RCCTT departmental programmes on team projects and inter-departmental work.
- Supervision of social auxiliary workers/students and social work students, as needed.
- Work closely with the Counselling Service.
Required Competencies
- Strong counselling skills
- Must be able to speak both Afrikaans and English
- Good report writing skills
- Able to multi-task effectively with good workload management
- Strong relationship and communication skills
- Good self-care and workplace wellness abilities
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with proof of registration.
- 3–5 years of experience in a social work service organisation.
- Relevant police, sexual offenders and child protection clearance. (Or proof of application thereof)
- Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Driver’s licence required.
- Previous training/experience in the GBV field.
- Good written English
- Group work facilitation
- This role requires flexibility and willingness to operate from three different sites, as required by service delivery needs.
Remuneration:
The salary will be between R192000 and R204000 per annum as a total cost to company package depending on knowledge, skills, abilities and experience.
Commencement Date
The position will be available from 01 June 2026.
Probation Period
- The appointment will be subject to a probationary period, during which the organisation will assess the employee’s knowledge, skills, abilities, performance, and overall suitability for the role, including alignment with the organisation’s values and culture.
- The probationary period will also serve as an opportunity for the successful candidate to assess their fit within the role and the organisation.
- Confirmation of permanent appointment will be subject to satisfactory performance during this period.
