Vacancy: Training and Development Co-ordinator – Athlone

Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is a non-profit organisation that promotes an end to violence against women specifically rape, and assists survivors in achieving their right to live free from violence by reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, encouraging reporting of rape incidents, facilitating the active engagement of communities in challenging high rape rates and advocating for a stronger criminal justice system. Rape Crisis has been supporting and empowering rape survivors in the Western Cape on their journey to recovery and on the road to justice since 1976. Our Athlone Making Change Program provides community based group work interventions through awareness raising workshops, talks and training. Awareness raising topics covering Myths and Stereotypes around rape, Sexual Reproductive Health as well as Pathway through the Criminal Justice System. The additional trainings that the program is involved in are, Internal Facilitators training course and customized First Responder trainings to academic institutions as well as stakeholder trainings to name a few.

The Training and Development Co-ordinator will be based at our Athlone office and will be responsible for the following tasks under the supervision of the Programmes Manager:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment, training, supervision and support to the Athlone Volunteer Facilitator team.
  • Co-ordination of facilitators.
  • The development of intervention strategies for survivors of sexual violence.
  • Participation in organisational research and other overarching projects.
  • The smooth running of community workshops.
  • Assist with data verification of workshops targets for reporting purposes.
  • Playing a part in the successful implementation of all operational plans and activities.
  • Strategic networking.
  • Liaise with, co-ordinate and attend stakeholder meetings and engagements.
  • Providing consultancy services to other service providers on request.
  • Participating in media, television and radio programmes as required.
  • Facilitating engaging online and inperson training workshops, ensuring effective learning delivery and supporting organisational capability development.

Required Competencies:

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong facilitation and written communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a structured, organised, and systematic manner.
  • They will establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels, and be capable of coaching and mentoring others through constructive and professional feedback.
  • The successful applicant will remain informed of current developments and best practices in trauma response and sexual violence work, demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development, and consistently uphold clear ethical values aligned with the mission of Rape Crisis.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate graduate qualification (e.g. Psychology, Education, Social Work, Accredited Facilitator Qualification) will be an advantage.
  • Relevant police, sexual offenders and child protection clearances. (Or proof of application thereof)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in facilitation or teaching diverse groups including professionals in-person and/ or online.
  • Strong Facilitation skills.
  • Experience in NGO environment
  • Good networking skills.
  • Sound knowledge, commitment and understanding of sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Good computer literacy (MSWord, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Driver’s licence, and own transport.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Good command of Afrikaans.

Remuneration:

The salary will be between R198000 and R228000 per annum as a total cost to company package depending on knowledge, skills, abilities and experience.

Commencement Date
The position will be available from 18 MAY 2026.

Probation Period

  • The appointment will be subject to a probationary period, during which the organisation will assess the employee’s knowledge, skills, abilities, performance, and overall suitability for the role, including alignment with the organisation’s values and culture.
  • The probationary period will also serve as an opportunity for the successful candidate to assess their fit within the role and the organisation.
  • Confirmation of permanent appointment will be subject to satisfactory performance during this period.
