Counselling Changes Everything
Many rape survivors silence themselves. They feel such a confusing mixture of shame and guilt about what has happened to them that they struggle to speak about it. They wonder if they could have done anything to prevent it and feel vulnerable at the thought of other people knowing about it. Counselling gives rape survivors a space to find the words that will help them heal.
Survivors that have been through Rape Crisis counselling feel empowered to speak and to tackle the challenges they face in reporting the rape to officials and walking the long and challenging road to justice. Through counselling they find their own coping strategies and learn how to deal with all these difficulties in their own way.
Many rape survivors who don’t have access to counselling experience serious mental health problems, substance abuse and even contemplate suicide.
How can you support them?
A single counselling session costs the organisation R350 but is offered free to the rape survivors and their family members – so please, can I ask you to click here to donate now? 100 percent of your contribution will go towards our counselling services for rape survivors.
I believe that Rape Crisis counselling is remarkable because of how sensitively it follows the unique journey that every survivor must make. It helps survivors break their silence and makes sure we do not silence them further. Your support and donation made online here, makes it possible for us to ensure the high quality of this vital service. Thank you so much for your interest; please feel free to share this with anyone else you think may share your concern.
