Building a Culture of Consent
Peer educators from the Birds and Bees project are challenging rape culture and building a culture of consent in their schools.
Rape Crisis Peer Educators
Learners at schools in Athlone and Khayelitsha come from homes where violence, gangsterism and drugs force them to take on adult responsibilities very young in life. They spend their days at schools where sexual harassment is a daily reality. They never get a chance to get away from that environment and learn the skills of leadership and team work that would make the difference in their lives, their schools and their communities.
Rape Crisis runs a year end camp for learners that have trained as peer educators in our Birds and Bees project. These learners discover their talents, grow as young leaders and work together as a team to reflect on the work they have done over the course of the year to challenge rape culture in their schools. You can help them by donating to our Backabuddy campaign and help us raise funds to run these camps.
Our goal: R120 000
